Capacity Bounds for the Two-User IM/DD Interference Channel

This paper studies the capacity of two-user intensity-modulation/direct-detection (IM/DD) interference channel (IC), which is relevant in context multi-user optical wireless communications. Despite some known single-letter characterizations for general discrete-memoryless ICs, a computable expression IM/DD IC missing. In this paper, we provide tight and easily inner outer bounds under peak average intensity constraints. The enable characterizing asymptotic sum-rate strong weak regimes, as well generalized degrees freedom (GDoF) symmetric case. Using obtained bounds, GDoF shown to have ‘W’ shape similar Gaussian with power are also evaluated numerically different regimes show their tightness, used study performance on-chip indoor OWC systems.
